Dilation And Curettage
A dilation and curettage surgery removes tissue from the uterus in a minor surgical procedure (womb). People normally go home the same day because it’s an outpatient operation. It takes roughly five to ten minutes to complete the treatment. However, the procedure may take longer. You’ll also have to stay in the recovery area for a few hours following the surgery before being allowed to go.
- To determine the reason for heavy bleeding during or between your menstrual periods
- To remove noncancerous tumors, or fibroids
- To remove and examine potentially cancerous tumors
- To remove infected tissue
After a dilation and curettage, you’ll probably want to use a menstruation pad because light bleeding is usual. For a few days, you may have cramps.
The risks of a hysteroscopy are minimal. A hysteroscopy recovery is short, and there are usually no long-term effects beyond the first few days after the surgery.
